Mischief, Murder and Mayhem? Three Rochester Things to Do

Rochester events

Did you know that Rochester has been ranked the top most liveable city by the Places Rated Almanac? In spite of its relatively small size, Rochester has a lot going on throughout the year, through snow in the winter and lilacs in the spring. Here are our three favorite Rochester things to do, that you might want to check out as well.

1. Be a Kid at the National Museum of Play

The National Museum of Play at the Strong is probably one of the most iconic buildings in Rochester, and it is the only museum in the world like it. You can play through the history of video games, go to Sesame Street, visit the indoor butterfly garden, and even journey to Wegmans where kids can pretend to grocery shop for their favorite foods. Museum hours vary throughout the week, but on Saturday it is open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Definitely a must see on any list of things to do Rochester NY.

2. Mount Hope Cemetery

Cemeteries do not have to be spooky, and in fact, Mount Hope is a great way to enjoy an afternoon. Established in 1838, this Victorian Cemetery has a rolling landscape once carved out by a retreating ice sheet. You can visit the graves of several historical figures, including Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony. Many of the graves follow peculiar plotting patterns, hiding away in corners or resting on the edge of valleys. There are also themed Rochester events throughout the year. Many people might get a kick out of the Mischief, Murder and Mayhem tour that happens in June and September.

3. The Old Toad

Ever feel like spending a night in the bowels of London? The Old Toad is a British pub located in, of all places, Rochester. It should definitely be on your list of things to do Rochester NY, as the Old Toad is an experience worth having. Advertising itself as a Pub From Over There, Over Here, Toad is managed by British exchange students, serves up authentic British pub food, and has drinks ranging from imports to local favorites. It was voted The Best Rochester Tavern by City Newspaper several years ago, and remains a steadfast favorite of many locals. The pub is open everyday until 2 a.m., and competititve souls might enjoy Sunday night trivia.

This is a pretty short list of Rochester NY things to do. What would you add?
